As the evenings start to darken, we light the stove earlier, draw the blinds and cosy up. All good to feel safe and cossetted. But I really start to miss the daylight. So how do I nurse my mental health through the darkness of autumn and winter?
For me, it’s yoga, gentle stretches, taking time to breathe and allowing myself to remain present, knowing that eventually spring will bud again. Coming to the mat is like sinking in to a long, hot bath. My muscles begin to relax, the anxiety I carry around with me melts away and oxytocin wraps me in its great big happy hormone hug.
All is well in the world.
